Randall Wine presents ...
the first EVER
wine tasting
James and Christine -- Allan and Liz in New Zealand
Vera, Ray and Jewel in the states
After meeting Allan and Liz through their website and quickly developing an online friendship, we all decided it would be fun to share wines from our respective locals. Thus in June 2000 was born the first Trans-Global Wine Tasting. Having received two wines from Allan and Liz, we set up a live online tasting. Together with long time friends of theirs, James (the strong and silent type) and Christine, we all tasted and discussed the wines together via Randallcam and live ICQ voice chat. Be watching for when Allan and Liz receive our shipment from the states. We will be tasting:
Our favorite pinot noir from Oregon, 98 Argyle
Our just bottled 98 Randall Chardonnay
Good friends Gary and Arlene Rodgers' Eaton Hill 93 Cabernet Sauvignon
THE WINES
1999 Grove Mill Sauvignon Blanc
1998 Canterbury House
Chardonnay
TASTING NOTES
99 Grove Mill Sauvignon
Blanc - We found a mineral nose at
first, followed by tropical fruit. On the pallet, tropical fruit with
grassy undertones, and a long finish. A good picnic wine that would
pair well with fruit, cheese and seafood. Perfect for summer, even
though it's winter in New Zealand!
1998 Caterbury House
Chardonnay - We detected a caramel
nose. On the pallet, very light oak with nuances of vanilla and
butter. We would sum this wine up by saying "subtle but elegant". It
wasn't big, but refined. A good food chardonnay. We
would pair this with light pasta dishes of an olive oil or cream
sauce.
